Today we're sharing a report on one of our most popular summer programs — the Parent & Child Voice Acting Experience for elementary school students, which drew a huge response this year.
A Summer Adventure: Becoming a Pro Voice Actor in a Real Studio
This program makes a dream come true for kids who love anime. Standing in a professional recording studio they would never normally be allowed into, with real microphones and real scripts in front of them, their eyes lit up.
Even the children who were shy at first transformed the moment they stepped up to the microphone. Matching the characters' movements and lip flaps, they poured their voices into the scenes with plenty of energy. Parents looked on warmly, cameras in hand, as their children gave the dubbing everything they had.
Great for Summer Homework, Too: A Special Worksheet to Take the Learning Further
This time, everyone who joined received more than just the experience — we also gave each participant a summer-only original worksheet.
It encourages kids to research how many languages their favorite anime has been translated into and released in, and it explains what a voice actor's job actually involves — something you rarely get to learn about — with space to record what they did on the day. Parents told us it could be used as a summer research project just as it was, and the feedback was excellent.
Sessions Added, 41 Participants in All: A Full House
We were delighted to receive a flood of applications as soon as booking opened. We added session after session, and over a single summer a total of 41 people joined us across 4 sessions.
The proud smiles on the children's faces when they watched the finished animation with their own voices in it, and the surprise and delight on their parents' faces, made this the best summer memory for our staff as well. Thank you so much to everyone who took part!
